Checkouts and returns

Books, journals, and other materials

To address the challenges created by the covid-19 pandemic, the Libraries have developed new services to ensure Miami students, faculty and staff can access materials quickly and efficiently.

Options for accessing materials include:

Equipment and technology

You can still check out books, journals, equipment and technology at the Libraries, including laptops, digital cameras, phone chargers, and more. We’ll be rotating and disinfecting items as they’re returned.

We’ve put marks on the floor at safe distances if you need to wait to speak with someone at the circulation desk. At the desk, you’ll interact with library staff through clear plastic dividers. This keeps everyone safe while you check out or return items.

If you’re returning a book, calculator, phone charger, pair of headphones, or another small and sturdy item, you can drop it in the book drop outside for a no-contact experience.

If you’re returning a laptop, iPad, camera, or another fragile item, please only return it at the desk.

New this semester: check out an Adobe Creative Cloud license online

Access specialty software through our Remote Lab (make sure to access through Miami’s VPN or while connected to campus internet)

Textbooks and course reserves

Physical reserves will be available, but availability may be limited depending on demand.

In order to keep everyone safe, we need to set returned items aside for at least three days to make sure any potential virus inactivates/dies off. This means that some high-frequency items like textbooks may be unavailable at times. We’re working to purchase additional copies of these high-use materials.

Faculty/instructors are encouraged to take advantage of the Libraries’ electronic reserves services.
